      A nursing home or assisted living facility is a place that provides accommodations as well as health care for elderly people. For a long time there has been a stigma that surrounded assisted living facilities. In 1986, a study was conduced on nursing homes, the study found that majority of the residents placed in nursing homes were being abused and neglected. The nursing home reform act was put in place shortly after to ensure that residents receive quality care to ensure their well being. nursing homes receive funding such as medicare or medicaid as long as they are certified and in compliance with the act.
